Zusammenfassung: | <p>The recent rediscovery of the Codex Vindobonensis Palatinus 3410 —or Chronicle of Vienna— by art historians offers essential information about the Burgundian archdukes Philip of Habsburg and Joanna of Castile’s trip to the Iberian Peninsula in 1502, the motive of which was to swear them in as heirs to the crowns of Castile and Aragon, and Joanna as Princess of Asturias. The Codex provides not only a more open and detailed view of the musical events that took place during that occasion –framed within a description of the customs of the Burgundian and Hispanic traditions– but also presents numerous episodes in which the Flemish chapel acted as the promotor of Philip and Joanna’s court. Based on this material, this article analyzes music as political propaganda of the Burgundian court in the presence of Castilian and Aragonese royalty and nobility. Furthermore, it corroborates the information provided about musical performance in the cities Philip and Joanna passed through, comparing the events with those described in other chronicles and analyzing the propagandistic content of the anonymous chronicler.</p> |
